On May 20, 2026, Google officially launched the smartwatch operating system Wear OS 7 at its I/O Developer Conference. This system is centered on enhancing battery efficiency and delivering intelligent interaction experiences. According to officials, battery endurance has been improved by up to 10%, a feat achieved through system-level power optimization algorithms and a collaborative hardware-software design.

The new system incorporates support for the Gemini Intelligence agent, empowering watches to comprehend complex instructions, foster cross-app collaboration, and carry out multi-step tasks. For instance, users can initiate running tracking through voice commands while simultaneously recording exercise data and setting schedule reminders.

Furthermore, Wear OS 7 bolsters cross-device automation capabilities. Users can now place food orders, control smart home devices, and perform various other operations directly from their watches, eliminating the need to access their phones. This advancement is expected to reduce daily phone unlocks by up to 37%.

For developers, Google has introduced the AppFunctions API interface, which facilitates the seamless integration of Gemini agent functionalities into third-party apps. The first smartwatches featuring Wear OS 7 are set to debut in the market in 2026.
