At present, the entire lineup of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series is outfitted with UFS 4.1 flash memory. The upcoming Galaxy S27 series, however, is set to break new ground by being the first to incorporate UFS 5.0 flash memory.
Developed under the auspices of the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, UFS 5.0 boasts theoretical sequential read and write speeds of up to 10.8GB/s. This represents a remarkable leap, exceeding the capabilities of UFS 4.1 by more than 2.5 times.
Built upon the MIPI M-PHY v6.0 and UniPro v3.0 specifications, UFS 5.0 harnesses the power of PAM4 signal modulation and innovative line coding techniques. These advancements significantly elevate single-channel data rates, ensuring faster and more efficient data transfer.
From a technological standpoint, UFS 5.0 integrates cutting-edge link equalization technology to maintain signal stability, even in challenging conditions. It also adopts an independent power rail design to enhance power integrity, reducing the risk of power fluctuations that could affect performance. Furthermore, the addition of inline hashing functionality bolsters data security, providing an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access.
Samsung has already embarked on mass production plans for UFS 5.0 chips. Notably, both the Snapdragon 8E6 series and Dimensity 9600 Pro processors have been confirmed to support this advanced standard.
