On April 3, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology rolled out the mandatory national standard, GB 47372-2026, titled "Safety Technical Specifications for Portable Power Banks." This standard encompasses both portable power banks and portable energy storage power supplies. Leveraging the foundation of two existing general standards, it fortifies the inherent safety of batteries by incorporating nail penetration tests and bolstering safety protection mechanisms in high-temperature, overcharging, and compression scenarios. Moreover, it introduces cycle aging testing and mandates the indication of a recommended safe service lifespan to mitigate the risk of internal short circuits following prolonged use.

Furthermore, the specification sets forth intelligent management requirements, detailing the necessity for real-time monitoring of critical parameters such as battery voltage and temperature. It also stipulates that products must possess the capability to store and retrieve abnormal information. Additionally, it advocates for unique product coding management, enabling consumers to access core information, including the battery brand, via the code. The new standard establishes a 12-month transition period, after which companies are required to manufacture and market products in strict adherence to the updated standard.
