In the 2025 global smartphone market scenario, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi have long held sway over the top three spots. The fourth and fifth positions are mainly a battleground for vivo and OPPO, while Chinese manufacturer Transsion often shakes up the existing order. According to data from CounterPoint, IDC, and other organizations, the second quarter of 2025 witnessed the emergence of a '2+8' pattern among the top ten global brands in terms of sales volume. Samsung and Apple led the pack, with market shares of 19% and 16% respectively. Meanwhile, Xiaomi (15%), vivo (9%), Transsion (8%), OPPO (7%), Honor (5%), and Huawei (5%) formed a formidable contingent of Chinese brands. Lenovo (Motorola) clinched the ninth spot with a 5% share, and realme (4%) took the tenth place. Chinese brands, in aggregate, captured over 58% of the global market, forming a strategic encirclement against Samsung and Apple.

Specifically, Samsung leaned on its dual-engine strategy featuring the Galaxy A and S series. The Galaxy A16 5G, in particular, achieved shipments of over 8 million units in a single quarter in India and Southeast Asia. This success can be attributed to its commitment to four-year system updates and a starting price of just $199. Apple, on the other hand, constructed a product matrix centered around the iPhone 16 series. The standard iPhone 16 topped the single-model sales chart with a 4% share. Meanwhile, the Pro Max version, equipped with the A18 chip and 5x optical zoom, captured 68% of the market for phones priced over $1,000.

Chinese brands, for their part, made significant strides through differentiation. Xiaomi witnessed a 30% annual growth in India and Latin America, thanks to its 'Smartphone × AIoT' strategy. Transsion surpassed a 55% market share in Africa, with the TECNO Camon 30's 64MP moonlight night algorithm playing a pivotal role. Huawei, with the Kirin 9020 chip and satellite communication capabilities of its Mate 70 series, split the domestic high-end market evenly with Apple.

In the third quarter of 2025, Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi retained their top three positions globally. Transsion, however, overtook vivo to rank fourth, with shipments growing 12% year-on-year to reach 28.6 million units. Vivo trailed closely behind with 28.5 million units and a 9% share, while OPPO ranked sixth with a 7% share.
