During a recent livestream, Lu Weibing, the President of Xiaomi Group, confirmed that the upcoming flagship model, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, will experience a price increase. Addressing the issue of the surging costs of memory components affecting the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Lu Weibing candidly admitted that this situation has been a major source of concern for him. He elaborated that, over the past three years, the AI sector has witnessed explosive growth, resulting in a significant redirection of production capacity towards High-Performance Computing (HPC). Traditionally, smartphones have been the main driver of memory demand; however, the current demand for high-performance computing capabilities has now eclipsed that of smartphones. Moreover, Lu Weibing pointed out that there has been a lack of new memory production capacity in recent years, and it is anticipated that new production will not come online until the end of 2027.
