The mandatory national standard titled "Data Security Technology - Technical Specifications for Information Deletion in Electronic Products", which was proposed and supervised by the Cyberspace Administration of China, has now received approval and been officially released by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China. This standard is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.

Against the backdrop of the digital economy's swift expansion, the market for second-hand electronic products has witnessed a substantial surge in volume. Consequently, the potential for data breaches resulting from inadequate information deletion has become an increasingly pressing concern.

This newly established standard is designed to fulfill pertinent regulatory demands, standardize the technical approaches employed for information deletion in electronic devices, and offer guidance to recycling entities on how to devise and enhance their information deletion management and technical safeguards. Its overarching goal is to mitigate the risks of data leakage within the second-hand market, thereby fostering a robust and orderly environment for the trading of second-hand electronic products.
