On December 2, 2025, Samsung made waves by introducing its first-ever tri-foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold. This innovative device features a distinctive "G-shaped" inward-folding mechanism. When folded, it boasts a 6.5-inch external display, while its main screen extends to a generous 10 inches when fully unfolded. The device’s slimmest point measures just 3.9 millimeters, and it weighs in at 309 grams.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by a specially customized Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. It packs a robust 5,600mAh battery with support for 45W wired fast charging. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate its triple-camera setup, led by a 200-megapixel primary sensor, along with 10-megapixel front cameras on both the inner and outer displays.

On the software front, the device runs on Android 16, enhanced with integrated Galaxy AI capabilities. It also supports standalone Samsung DeX, enabling a PC-like mobile productivity experience.

Regarding the notable absence of Qualcomm’s fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Supreme chip, Kang Min-seok, Vice President of Product at Samsung Mobile, clarified that the company’s primary focus is on ensuring product quality and timely completion. He stressed that optimizing proven, mature chipsets holds greater value than rushing to incorporate the latest hardware.

However, tech media outlet Wccftech suggests that cost considerations may have played a significant role in Samsung’s decision. They point out that the Galaxy Z TriFold’s complex development and high manufacturing costs—with an initial production run estimated at just 100,000 units—could result in approximately $6 million in savings by opting for an older chipset.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is set to open for online pre-orders on December 9, with a launch in South Korea scheduled for December 12. It will subsequently roll out to markets including China, Singapore, and the UAE. Market sources indicate a starting price of 3,590,400 KRW (approximately RMB 17,305), slightly undercutting Huawei’s Mate XTs, which starts at RMB 17,999.
