There has been a spate of incidents where the 12V-2x6 power connectors on graphics cards have burned out. Even though graphics card and power supply manufacturers have made considerable efforts to bolster safety, it is still tough to entirely prevent such occurrences. Recently, an RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC user reported that their graphics card abruptly burned out while it was in an idle state, after seven months of use. The user had utilized the 16-pin adapter that came with the card, connecting it to an EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G+ power supply using a converter cable. The images shared by the user clearly showed significant burn marks on the top pins of both the adapter and the graphics card connector. The user has now lodged a support ticket and is patiently waiting for an official response. Prior to this, within a mere 48-hour span on the Reddit forum, four users had reported that the 16-pin power connector or power cable of their RTX 5090 had burned out.
