Apple Inc. has forged a partnership with the American Heart Association and Beijing Anzhen Hospital to launch a forward-looking clinical study. This initiative is designed to harness the capabilities of Apple Watch technology in order to improve the management of heart failure patients who also have atrial fibrillation. Through this collaboration, Apple aims to solidify its foothold in China's clinical research domain and pave the way for subsequent health-related studies.
The research is centered on assessing whether digital consultations facilitated by wearable technology can fine-tune patients' medical therapy plans, ensuring they adhere to established guidelines. During the study, more than 200 patients who have been discharged from the hospital will be provided with Apple Watches. These devices will be used to monitor the patients over a 90-day follow-up period. Subsequently, the data gathered will be subjected to retrospective analysis to determine its utility in supporting treatment strategies, detecting recurrent episodes of atrial fibrillation, and forecasting the likelihood of future events.
Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, along with Professor Ma Changsheng of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, and Mariell Jessup, the Chief Science and Medical Officer at the American Heart Association, have all voiced their enthusiasm for this collaborative effort. Together, they are dedicated to realizing the vision of delivering proactive and tailored services in the realm of heart failure management.
