On October 15, eSIM phones have recently emerged as a focal point in the market. The eSIM technology replaces conventional physical SIM cards with electronic data files for mobile phones, allowing users to access mobile communication services without the need for a physical SIM card. By removing the physical card slot, devices like mobile phones can be made thinner and lighter, while also freeing up internal space. Previously, eSIM technology had found applications in domestic sectors such as the Internet of Things and smart wearables. This approval signifies its official entry into the commercial phase for mobile phones. On October 13, China Unicom, China Mobile, and China Telecom jointly announced that they had secured approval to conduct commercial trials for eSIM phone operation services. During the commercial trial phase, the three carriers will temporarily suspend online services. Users will be required to visit the business hall with their eSIM-enabled phones to apply for activation. At present, eSIM phones from manufacturers including Apple, Huawei, and OPPO are already compatible and will be gradually rolled out for sale.
