On September 27, 2025, the Xiaomi 17 series made its official debut on the market. In a mere 5 minutes, it shattered records, achieving the highest first-day sales volume and revenue across all price brackets among domestic smartphones in 2025. Particularly noteworthy is that the Pro Max model contributed to over 50% of the total sales.
However, the series has come under fire for having a rather unbalanced product lineup. The Pro Max variant swiftly sold out across numerous sales channels, while the standard version is still readily available in large quantities. Data from e-commerce platforms reveals that sales of the Pro and Pro Max models surpassed 10,000 units. In contrast, the standard version only managed to sell slightly over 3,000 units.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng International Securities, pointed out that shipments of the Xiaomi 17 series might witness a year-on-year decline of around 20%. He warned that if there are no substantial adjustments to pricing and marketing strategies, total shipments could even fall short of those of the previous-generation Xiaomi 15 series.
In response to these concerns, Lu Weibing, the President of Xiaomi's Mobile Phone Division, clarified the situation. He explained that due to the lackluster sales of the 1TB version in the previous generation, the 16GB + 1TB variant was not launched simultaneously this time around. Instead, it is set to start deliveries from October 5. This decision had a significant impact on the initial sales performance of the standard version.
Wang Hua, the General Manager of Xiaomi's PR Department, also weighed in on the matter. He stated that at present, there are no intentions to cut back on orders. With the introduction of the 16GB + 1TB variant for the Xiaomi 17 standard version and an increase in orders for the 17 Pro series, the product mix is expected to undergo a transformation. As a result, overall orders are projected to rise compared to the previous generation.
