On September 25 (Beijing Time), technology news outlet 9to5mac reported that following the release of the iPhone 17 series, users have voiced concerns regarding the durability of the iPhone 17 Pro's aluminum body. At Apple Store retail locations in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and other cities, display models began to show scratches within mere hours of being handled, with the problem being especially pronounced on darker-colored variants. Professional reviews have highlighted that although the iPhone 17 Pro demonstrates commendable resistance to bending, it falls short in terms of drop and scratch resistance. Scratches were predominantly observed around the camera module area. In response, Apple's customer service clarified that the majority of screen protector tools are crafted from plastic and are thus unlikely to cause damage to the device's body. They encouraged users to thoroughly inspect the product upon delivery or to record an unboxing video for documentation. They also mentioned that returns or exchanges are feasible within a 14-day window. Additionally, they suggested the use of a protective case for enhanced safeguarding.
