Just before the launch of watchOS 26, Apple has rolled out a new hypertension alert feature for compatible Apple Watch models in the United States. After receiving clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week, this feature is now accessible on both watchOS 26 and iOS 26 Release Candidate platforms, with a broader launch anticipated in the coming hours. Utilizing the optical heart rate sensor, the system continuously tracks indicators of hypertension over a 30-day period. It does this by examining how the user's blood vessels react to each heartbeat, and sends out alerts if sustained hypertension is identified. This function is designed for Apple Watch Series 9 and subsequent models, as well as Ultra 2 and later versions. It is aimed at users who are 22 years old or older, have no prior diagnosis of hypertension, and are not pregnant.
