On September 6, 2025, news emerged that Apple has expanded its supplier base for memory and flash - storage components in the iPhone 17 series, now involving five companies: Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Micron Technology, SanDisk, and Kioxia. This strategic decision is primarily driven by the need to mitigate the risks associated with escalating component costs and potential price hikes resulting from U.S. tariffs, achieved through diversifying its supply chain.
Among these suppliers, Samsung and SK Hynix play dual roles, supplying both DRAM and NAND chips. Specifically, Samsung has secured around 37% of the DRAM orders, while SK Hynix accounts for 33%, with Micron taking up the remaining 30%. When it comes to NAND flash - storage, Kioxia has clinched 35% of the orders, and SK Hynix follows with 30%.
In addition to memory and storage components, Samsung is also set to supply millions of LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models.
According to TrendForce's projections, the iPhone 17 Air will have a starting price of $1,099, offering 256GB of storage. The highest - end configuration, boasting 1TB of storage, will be priced at $1,499. However, the final pricing details will be officially unveiled at the event scheduled for September 10.
