The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is only days away from giving the world the latest from Apple's developments, with the awaited iOS 26 set to deliver the latest for iPhones. A new rumor surfaced which is now givingusers an overview of which iPhones are compatible with the new operating system version, with the latest changes unveiled.
Based on the list, there are several models of the iPhone that will not receive the upcoming iOS 19/iOS 26 upgrade from Apple, with the next version dropping support for certain smartphones of the company.
A new report from MacRumors shared a new compatibility list for iPhones for this year, especially with the upcoming next-generation version of the iOS which is expected to undergo a name change to iOS 26. The report claimed that they cannot identify the source behind the said rumor, but claims that the sources are reliable with regard to information about the iOS.
Here is the full list of all compatible iPhones that can upgrade to the upcoming iOS 26.
It is important to note that the only devices that were not included here are the iPhone XS series, and this includes the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR. These devices would reportedly see iOS 18 to be their last software upgrade but would still receive security updates from Apple moving forward.
The latest rumor also stresses Apple's upcoming name change for its iPhone operating system as it will no longer follow the regular version order that would supposedly name it iOS 19. Starting this year, Apple will rely on the following year's last two numbers to name the operating system, with this year's version being the iOS 26, and so forth.
One of the biggest changes for Apple's releases for this year on the software side of things is its interface, particularly as the company is overhauling its looks and experiences to match an iconic UI. A previous leak regarded that Apple is preparing to deliver the visionOS UI to all of its other operating systems including iOS for iPhones, iPadOS for iPads, macOS for Macs, and more.
This update would reportedly give users the translucent app buttons and windows that would replicate the look of the visionOS ecosystem, making the upgrade a seamless transition to Apple's new look.
On the other hand, iOS 26's previous rumor also revealed that there would be an AI-powered battery management feature that would anticipate the arrival of the iPhone 17 Air, its thinnest smartphone release ever.
Alongside this, Apple also reportedly worked on giving users a faster experience on the iOS platform with the upcoming iOS 19/iOS 16 upgrade, with the UI changes being its most significant change here. There are three goals that Apple has for iOS 26, with the first one centering on a more user-friendly experience, a faster performance, and lastly, making it easier to learn.
