China boasts approximately 380 million electric bicycles, with models featuring smart services enjoying particular popularity among consumers. However, CCTV Finance has recently brought to light a concerning issue: the smart services of certain electric bicycles have ceased to function due to the decommissioning of 2G base stations. Customers of brands like Niu have reported that the connected devices on their bicycles are solely compatible with 2G networks, necessitating an additional fee for hardware upgrades to maintain access to smart services. Notably, consumers were not informed at the point of purchase that these vehicles were 2G-only models. Manufacturers have responded by stating that they are currently only offering promotional activities and are unable to provide free replacements. Legal experts emphasize that manufacturers have a responsibility to uphold consumers' right to information.
