The "Online ID" system has been officially unveiled today, enabling users to procure online ID numbers and certificates via the "National Online Identity Authentication App." This app facilitates identity verification in various scenarios, including online shopping and business transactions, with the primary goal of mitigating the risk of personal information leakage. The online ID number functions as a unique identifier without revealing any plaintext personal information, while the online ID certificate integrates this number with encrypted identity details. Minors must apply under the supervision or accompaniment of their legal guardians, whereas adults can seamlessly complete the application process using mobile phones equipped with NFC functionality. The service has already undergone pilot testing across multiple industries, boasting over 16 million downloads and providing authentication services to more than 12.5 million users. Upon integrating with this platform, internet platforms are prohibited from requesting users' plaintext identity information, except when mandated by law or voluntarily disclosed by the users themselves.
