Germany's Federal Office for Information Security has revealed that members of the Bundestag and other unidentified high-profile figures received threat notifications from Apple, warning they may be targets of state-sponsored spyware attacks. The German government is treating the matter seriously but has not yet disclosed specific details about the individuals involved. Apple periodically sends such notifications to users suspected of being targeted by spyware, without identifying the source country of the attack or confirming whether devices have actually been compromised. Relevant authorities advise recipients to assume their devices may have been breached. Recently, users in multiple countries have received similar alerts, with this latest wave of attacks affecting 99 countries and the perpetrators still unidentified. Such spyware is typically developed by private vendors and purchased by governments, underscoring the gray-area challenges posed by the mercenary spyware industry.
