The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has officially published an international standard for the reference architecture of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), titled 'Information Technology - Brain-Computer Interface - Reference Architecture'. This standard was developed under the leadership of Chinese experts, in close collaboration with specialists from multiple countries.

With BCIs finding widespread applications across diverse fields, a unified foundational architecture has become essential for fostering technological synergy and driving the standardized development of the industry. This newly released standard tackles four core issues, delineates typical implementation models, and establishes a comprehensive technical framework. It effectively bridges the gaps in system composition, functional divisions, and implementation methods that previously existed across various technological approaches and application scenarios for BCIs.

The introduction of this standard is set to harmonize the global industry's understanding, offering a unified technical reference point for BCI research, development, and design. Moreover, it will facilitate the formulation of subsequent standards, thereby laying a solid foundation for the large-scale and standardized advancement of BCIs on a global scale.
