As drones are assuming an ever-more pivotal role on contemporary battlefields, the need for safeguarding individual soldiers is intensifying. Danish defense technology firm MyDefence has rolled out the Wingman Edge, a wearable gadget designed for drone detection. By picking up on drone control radio signals, this gadget can spot potential dangers from as far as 6 kilometers, thus offering frontline soldiers earlier alerts. The Wingman Edge tips the scales at roughly 975 grams and can be worn directly by soldiers. It boasts an integrated passive radio receiver paired with an artificial intelligence classification system, facilitating ongoing scans across multiple frequency bands spanning from 200MHz to 6GHz. After detecting suspicious signals, it cross-references them with a database of recognized drone signatures to ascertain whether they stem from a drone platform. The gadget is interconnected with command and control systems, enabling it to swiftly gather information on fresh threats and adjust to unfamiliar or newly emerging drone signal traits. Upon confirmation of drone activity, it notifies the wearer via sound, light, vibration, or display interfaces. Moreover, the gadget is compatible with other systems previously introduced by MyDefence, facilitating more all-encompassing anti-drone collaborative functionalities.
