South Korea is taking steps to dismantle regulatory hurdles that have hindered the integration of humanoid robots into frontline industrial settings. Recently, the South Korean government greenlit a pilot program granting regulatory exemptions, enabling robotics firm Robros to introduce 20 bipedal humanoid robots into sectors like semiconductors, automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, and logistics. These robots are designed to operate and execute tasks alongside human workers, either within the same workspace or in adjacent areas. This initiative represents the inaugural effort to modify certain safety regulations—originally formulated for stationary industrial robots in South Korea—through a targeted pilot project focused on humanoid robots.
