On October 2, news emerged that China had successfully connected its inaugural 100-MW compressed carbon dioxide energy storage project—the China Huadian Xinjiang Mulei Project—to the power grid on that very day. This groundbreaking project has carved out a new trajectory for large-scale compressed carbon dioxide energy storage, embodying principles of environmental friendliness, zero carbon emissions, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. It possesses the flexibility to store and release electricity in accordance with grid requirements, achieving a response time on the scale of minutes. On an annual basis, the project can store 290 million kWh of electricity during periods of low grid demand and subsequently release 180 million kWh of clean, green electricity during peak demand periods, with the capacity to sustain power generation for more than 6 consecutive hours.
