On October 1, reporters from the media learned from Power Construction Corporation of China that the Qinghai Gonghe Gigawatt-Scale Photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Project had been successfully connected to the grid and commenced power generation. This project, integrating photovoltaic power generation, solar thermal energy storage, and electrothermal conversion capabilities, is situated in Gonghe County, Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province. It boasts a total installed capacity of 1,000 megawatts, encompassing a 900-megawatt photovoltaic power station and a 100-megawatt molten salt tower-type solar thermal power station. The solar thermal mirror field is adorned with 10,310 heliostats, collectively covering an area of approximately 500,000 square meters for light collection. These mirrors work in unison to track sunlight, focusing solar radiation onto the receiver atop the heat absorption tower to heat molten salt. Subsequently, the stored thermal energy is utilized to produce steam, which drives a steam turbine generator to generate electricity.
