On September 16th (Beijing Time), SpaceX declared its intention to launch the 14th test flight of the Starship on September 22nd (local time). The launch window spans 75 minutes, commencing at 7:15 AM Central Time (US) on the same day. This mission will mark the maiden attempt of the Starship’s upper stage to enter Earth orbit, with plans to deploy 26 third-generation Starlink satellites that will officially integrate into the Starlink network. The primary goal of this test flight is to validate the Starship’s orbital entry capabilities, without endeavoring to recover the Starship’s upper stage and Super Heavy booster. In light of the engine reignition issue experienced by the Super Heavy booster during the 13th test flight, SpaceX has fine-tuned the pertinent software and hardware, and enhanced the thermal protection system based on insights gained from the Starship’s upper stage research post the previous test flight. Should the Starship demonstrate consistent, multiple weekly flights, it is poised to gradually supersede the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets. Achieving reliable orbital entry, safe return, and swift reuse also stand as pivotal pledges made by SpaceX to its investors.
