California recently passed SB 868, a bill aimed at facilitating the convenient use of small-scale solar systems by residents. These systems, which can be plugged into ordinary power outlets and are commonly known as 'balcony solar,' are compact and can be installed on balconies, patios, or rooftops. They are designed to offset a portion of household electricity usage, eliminating the need for the extensive wiring and high installation costs associated with traditional rooftop solar systems.
