On September 2, it was announced that Anemoi Marine Technologies, a UK-based company specializing in wind-powered propulsion technology, will outfit the Maersk Lima container ship with a rotor sail system. This move aims to curtail fuel usage and decrease carbon emissions. As per the deal, Anemoi will undertake the design, production, and delivery of a fixed rotor sail, measuring 5 meters in diameter and 35 meters in height. Installation is slated for completion by mid-2027. The rotor sails harness the Magnus effect, creating a pressure differential through rotation to drive the ship forward, thereby achieving substantial fuel economy and emission cuts.
