The world's inaugural international standard for legged robots, titled 'Robots - Service Robot Performance Specifications and Their Test Methods - Part 5: Locomotion of Legged Robots,' has been formally unveiled. This groundbreaking standard, developed under the stewardship of Chinese experts, aims to address the longstanding challenge of a unified global benchmark for assessing legged robots. It boasts two pivotal innovations:

  • Firstly, it integrates real-world conditions—such as staircases, inclined planes, and barriers—into the evaluation framework for locomotion performance, enhancing the practical relevance of assessments.
  • Secondly, it broadens the scope of evaluation from mere locomotion prowess to a holistic assessment of task-oriented capabilities, encompassing perception, interaction, and decision-making skills.

The adoption of this standard is poised to streamline research and development endeavors for enterprises, simplify testing procedures for institutions, and empower users with a more objective and comprehensive understanding of product performance.
