A research team, headed by Professor Meng Qingbo from the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has achieved a groundbreaking feat by fabricating large-area copper zinc tin sulfur selenium (CZTSSe) thin-film photovoltaic modules. These modules boast a remarkable photoelectric conversion efficiency of 13.0%, setting a new global benchmark. Additionally, the team has pioneered a solution coating process tailored for large-scale, continuous production. Notably, small-area cells produced through this method have demonstrated a certified efficiency of 14.2%. This milestone not only paves the way for the industrialization and mass production of cost-effective, eco-friendly solar cells but also represents a significant leap forward in renewable energy technology. The pertinent findings have been published in the esteemed journal Nature Materials.
