On August 25th, it was reported that at the 2026 Nuclear Fusion Energy Conference, which took place on the same day, the Yangtze River Delta Innovation Consortium—led by China Fusion Energy Co., Ltd. and established in collaboration with entities such as Shanghai Superconductor, Eastern Superconductor, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group, Chaoci Xinneng, Energy Singularity, Hangyang Group, and Yixi Technology—will prioritize meeting the needs of the China HL-4 fusion device. This will involve building the capacity for developing high-temperature superconducting strong-field tokamak magnets and establishing a comprehensive engineering technology system. The consortium aims to set up the first 25T high-temperature superconducting strong-field magnet development and testing line by 2028 and finalize the development of a prototype magnet by 2030.
