The initiative titled "Research, Development, and Application of High-Efficiency Lithium Extraction Technology and Equipment for Lepidolite," helmed by Changsha Nonferrous Metallurgical Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd.—a subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China (CHALIECO)—has successfully tackled persistent challenges in China's lithium extraction from lepidolite. These challenges encompassed equipment corrosion, the formation of rotary kiln rings, and suboptimal recovery rates, thereby paving the way for large-scale industrial production. The project introduced an innovative lepidolite molten salt substitution roasting technology, which effectively mitigated equipment corrosion and kiln ring formation, while simultaneously elevating lithium recovery rates to new heights. This achievement signifies a pivotal leap forward in China's ability to exploit complex, low-grade lepidolite resources with high value.
