Recently, China has made a substantial breakthrough in the pivotal technology area of rare earth detection. For an extended period, accurately quantifying the levels of rare earth impurities within high-purity rare earths has been significantly impeded by matrix interference. This has posed a major obstacle to the precise control of rare earth product quality.

To tackle this issue, the Key Laboratory of the State Administration for Market Regulation (Rare Earth Product Testing and Traceability), which was established with the backing of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, has embarked on specialized technological research. Through the relentless endeavors of the research team, multiple key technologies for rare earth detection have been successfully developed. Among these, the technology for directly measuring the content of rare earth impurities in high-purity rare earths using inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry is particularly noteworthy.

This innovative technology surmounts the limitations inherent in traditional detection methods. Traditional approaches often necessitate prior matrix separation and are characterized by high detection limits. In contrast, the new technology boasts advantages such as high sensitivity, high accuracy, and swift detection capabilities. It facilitates the direct and precise measurement of trace rare earth impurities in high-purity rare earths, thereby offering robust technical support for the quality control of rare earth products.
