Recently, Douyin's lifestyle services division introduced a new fee structure for hotel bookings made via the 'Doubao' platform. The new fees consist of a software service charge of 11.4% and a payment processing fee of 0.6%, summing up to roughly 12%. Previously, bookings through Doubao were lumped together with Douyin's organic traffic bookings, incurring a uniform 8% commission fee. On the evening of August 10, Liu Xing, Doubao's public relations head, issued a statement refuting the notion that 'Doubao charges for hotel recommendations.' He clarified that Doubao's lifestyle services do not engage in paid promotions or levy advertising fees. Merchants have no means to sway recommendations or rankings through financial contributions; they are only required to pay channel service fees post-transaction. Doubao, still in its nascent exploratory phase, encourages user experiences and feedback.
