It has been reported that the renowned Bitcoin hardware wallet, Coldcard, has a flaw in its random number generation process. This flaw has led to the systematic calculation of mnemonic phrases produced by numerous offline 'cold wallets'. According to data from analytical firms, as of August 3, attackers have managed to steal over 1,755 Bitcoins from roughly 5,000 compromised wallets. Based on the market value at that time, the stolen Bitcoins were worth approximately $110 million. The device manufacturer, Coinkite, has acknowledged this vulnerability and has issued a firmware update to address the issue, urging users to install the update promptly. Coldcard was previously considered one of the most secure methods for storing cryptocurrencies. Industry data reveals that in the first half of this year, the total value of stolen cryptocurrencies globally reached $972 million, with 207 hacking incidents reported, setting a new record for a half-year period.
