During the initial six months of 2026, China witnessed a notable acceleration in its shift towards green and low-carbon energy sources. The aggregate installed capacity for wind and solar power soared to 19.5 billion kilowatts, marking a 16.8% year-on-year surge. The electricity generated from these renewable sources exceeded 1.2 trillion kilowatt-hours, contributing to nearly a quarter of the nation's total electricity consumption. Concurrently, coal-fired power generation amounted to 2.5 trillion kilowatt-hours, with its share in the overall power generation mix declining to 49.7% for the first time, thus dropping below the 50% threshold.
