Some internet users discovered that even without LG or McAfee software installed on their computers, connecting to an LG monitor would still trigger a McAfee promotional pop-up window on the desktop. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Microsoft had been matching OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) device metadata through system updates. This process led to the automatic installation of supporting software for LG monitors, which LG subsequently utilized to display advertisements. In response, LG stated that it would refrain from installing McAfee software without user consent; however, it did not directly address the issue of the unwanted pop-up ads. Following Microsoft's intervention and contact with LG, the latter agreed to promptly disable the pop-up ads within the application. This incident also highlights the potential need for Microsoft to implement stricter regulations on OEM behavior to prevent such issues in the future.
