South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. engineering firm Sargent & Lundy (S&L) to jointly develop offshore floating small modular reactors (FSMRs). The platform aims to standardize design, be compatible with various reactor technologies, and offer a high degree of flexibility to meet the diverse needs of global customers. This collaboration will combine Samsung Heavy Industries' strengths in offshore power plant engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) with S&L's expertise in nuclear design and engineering, enhancing Samsung Heavy Industries' position in the U.S. market.
