On June 19, S&P conferred a credit rating of 'BBB' upon SpaceX (SPCX.O). S&P acknowledged SpaceX's impressive track record in the launch and connectivity sectors. Nevertheless, it also pointed out that the substantial capital requirements and the uncertainties surrounding SpaceX's artificial intelligence (AI) ventures exert an influence on the rating. S&P clarified that this rating does not encompass SpaceX's ambitious long-term initiatives, including lunar landings, Mars expeditions, the establishment of space-based data centers, and the construction of a sizable chip factory in Texas. This is primarily because most of these projects are still in the conceptual phase and cannot be accurately quantified, thus lying beyond the purview of the rating assessment. However, S&P did highlight that should these projects materialize, SpaceX might need to secure long-term financing down the line. Despite these considerations, S&P maintains a stable outlook for SpaceX, predicting that its adjusted leverage ratio will stay below 2.0 times, even amidst its numerous investment endeavors.
