According to CNBC, less than a week after SpaceX completed its record-breaking IPO, Musk appointed his long-time friend, Roelof Botha, as a new member of the board of directors. Botha will serve as an independent director and a member of the audit committee, becoming the eighth member of SpaceX's board. Botha and Musk are both from South Africa and have been collaborating since the early days of PayPal's founding in 2000. Botha joined Sequoia Capital in 2003 and is now an advisor, listed on its official website as a core member of the seed and early-stage investment team as well as the growth team.
