On June 18th, reports emerged indicating that during its 112th plenary session, the 3GPP Radio Access Network Technical Specification Group recently ratified a significant milestone in the research progress of the 6G wireless technology standard. This milestone was marked by the successful completion of the "6G Scenarios and Technical Requirements" project, with China Mobile assuming the pivotal role of project reporter. The culmination of this project resulted in the "Report on 6G Scenarios and Technical Requirements" (TR38.914), which, for the first time, seamlessly integrates the requirements of 6G scenarios with fundamental wireless-side considerations such as spectrum utilization, coverage, energy efficiency, migration strategies, network architecture, and operation and maintenance into a cohesive evaluation framework. This integration not only establishes a solid foundation for subsequent research endeavors focused on the inaugural edition of the 6G wireless technology standard but also provides invaluable insights for the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) in formulating comprehensive 6G performance requirements. Ultimately, this achievement paves the way for the global advancement of 6G technology, network infrastructure, and the broader industry ecosystem.
