On May 26, American Airlines announced that it will begin installing SpaceX's Starlink Wi-Fi system on more than 500 Airbus narrow-body passenger aircraft starting in the first quarter of 2027. This upgrade will cover the majority of American Airlines' Airbus narrow-body fleet, including in-service aircraft as well as the brand-new A321XLR and A321neo models. The Starlink network utilizes a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites to provide broadband internet, offering lower latency and higher transmission speeds compared to traditional geostationary satellite systems, supporting applications such as online gaming, video streaming, and real-time collaboration tools.
