As one of the pioneering high-speed railway systems in the world, Japan's Shinkansen boasts impressive speeds of up to 285 kilometers per hour. However, with the passage of time, some of its technologies have started to show signs of obsolescence. In response to this, Japan Railways (JR) has initiated an upgrade program, incorporating two significant new technologies: 5G connectivity and noise reduction measures. JR made an announcement at the end of last month, stating that these enhancements would initially be implemented on six trains. Notably, the 5G window technology, developed by Japan's AGC company, seamlessly integrates glass fiber conformal antennas into the train windows, which are then connected to in-car Wi-Fi units, offering passengers a seamless and high-speed internet experience.
