On April 1, reliable sources revealed that China's pioneering mandatory national standard, the 'Safety Technical Specification for Mobile Power Supplies,' was officially issued on March 31, 2026, and is slated to come into full force on April 1, 2027. Although the finer details of the regulations remain pending, 28 battery cell manufacturers, including prominent names like ATL, Lishen, and BYD, along with 5 chip and BMS solution providers, have already successfully navigated the preliminary testing phase. The new regulations are designed to tackle persistent industry challenges, such as misleading capacity claims, substandard battery cells, and recurring safety mishaps. They bring about a series of technological advancements: mobile power battery cells are now required to pass the rigorous nail penetration test, guaranteeing no fire or explosion post-penetration; the temperature and duration thresholds for thermal abuse tests have been significantly raised; novel safety assessments, including drop and compression tests for the entire device, have been introduced, and products are now mandated to clearly indicate their safe usage lifespans, along with enhanced protection mechanisms against overcurrent and short circuits.
