On March 3, Musk's Starlink made an announcement on platform X, revealing that its next-generation V2 satellites, designed for Starlink Mobile, are set to deliver 5G-level speeds, boasting a data density 100 times greater than that of the V1 satellites. These V2 satellites will offer seamless support for streaming, internet browsing, high-speed applications, and voice calls, providing an experience on par with terrestrial networks. Presently, Starlink Mobile's coverage spans 32 countries across six continents, facilitating satellite-to-phone data, voice, and text communications. The upgrade to V2 satellites will overcome current service constraints, with user peak speeds projected to reach 150Mbps. SpaceX has ambitions to deploy up to 15,000 V2 satellites, with some V2 Mini variants already launched into orbit. International media outlets anticipate that initial testing of V2 services could commence as early as 2027.
