As reported by NBC News, at the 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2026), Boston Dynamics made a significant announcement: its renowned Atlas humanoid robot has officially entered mass production. The initial batch of these mass-produced Atlas robots is set to be delivered to its controlling shareholder, Hyundai Motor, and its new AI collaborator, Google DeepMind. Boston Dynamics is poised to kick-start production immediately at its headquarters in Boston, USA. All orders for 2026 have already been fully booked, with the company planning to ship the robots in the upcoming months. Moreover, the company has outlined plans to expand its customer base in early 2027. The Atlas is a high-end enterprise-grade humanoid robot, boasting 56 degrees of freedom. It stands at an impressive height of 1.9 meters, with an arm span of 2.3 meters, and is capable of lifting objects weighing up to 50 kilograms. It offers three control modes: autonomous, remote operation, and tablet software control. The robot is also IP67 waterproof and can operate within a temperature range of -20℃ to 40℃. Through Boston Dynamics' Orbit software, Atlas can seamlessly connect to industrial systems like MES and WMS, facilitating rapid task replication and deployment. Additionally, Boston Dynamics has forged a new partnership with Google DeepMind. The goal is to integrate Google DeepMind's state-of-the-art foundational models into Atlas, thereby enhancing the robot's cognitive abilities. Hyundai Motor Group, as the controlling shareholder of Boston Dynamics, is gearing up to deploy tens of thousands of Boston Dynamics robots across its manufacturing facilities. Furthermore, the group has plans to construct a new factory with the capacity to produce 30,000 robots annually.
