Following the introduction of the =COPILOT() function in Excel, Microsoft has unveiled the 'Copilot in Grid' tool. This innovative tool empowers users to articulate their requirements in plain, natural language directly within a cell. In response, Copilot instantly generates the corresponding Excel formula, complete with a preview of the anticipated result. To utilize this feature, users simply select the target cell, type in the '=' symbol, and then input their needs into the Copilot prompt box—for instance, 'Calculate total profit.' The AI assistant promptly suggests a formula and presents the calculation outcome. If the user is content with the suggestion, they can click 'Keep' to implement it; otherwise, they have the option to 'Discard' it and try formulating their request again. This functionality not only facilitates the creation of new formulas but also enables the modification of existing ones, the integration of data from disparate worksheets, and the optimization of formulas based on user specifications. At present, this feature is predominantly accessible in the web - based version of Excel for Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers. Moreover, it's currently limited to generating a single formula to process one data range at a time. However, Microsoft is contemplating the addition of support for generating multiple formulas in the near future.
