On September 3, the French National Commission on Informatics and Liberty (CNIL) announced that it had fined Google a staggering €325 million for two breaches of French law. The tech giant has been given six months to rectify the issues. Google, in response, stated that it is currently reviewing the CNIL's decision. The commission's investigation uncovered that Google had integrated email-form advertisements into its email service without obtaining user consent. Furthermore, Google placed small text files (cookies) associated with personalized advertising on users' devices during the account creation process, without securing valid consent. This action contravened France's Data Protection and Freedom of Information Law.
