On August 13, Chinese scientists achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully detecting, for the first time, the echo signal from the new generation lunar laser retroreflector, NGLR-1. This accomplishment confirms the success of the ranging experiment, positioning China as the fourth nation to achieve this feat, following France, Germany, and the United States. This achievement underscores China's prominent standing in the realm of lunar laser ranging. The detection was carried out by the Tianqin ranging station at Sun Yat-sen University, which initially obtained multiple distance measurements.
