The xAI company's data center in Memphis, Tennessee, owned by Elon Musk, has come under intense scrutiny due to concerns regarding air pollution stemming from the use of natural gas turbines for power generation. Preliminary test results indicate that levels of ten pollutants, including benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde, do not exceed regulatory standards. Nevertheless, the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) has raised doubts about the tests, questioning the omission of ozone measurements and identifying flaws in the testing methodology. These issues include neglecting the most heavily impacted areas and utilizing equipment that fails to adhere to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. Representing the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), SELC has issued a threat to file a lawsuit against the data center.
