Japanese media sources have revealed that the SoftBank Group intends to repurpose a former Sharp liquid crystal panel factory, now dormant, into a state-of-the-art data center. This facility will house AI agents collaboratively developed by SoftBank and OpenAI, with operations slated to commence in 2026. Initially, the data center will boast a power supply capacity of approximately 150 megawatts, scaling up to 250 megawatts by 2028. This ambitious project aims to establish one of Japan's largest computing power infrastructures and accelerate the commercialization of AI agents.
