Microsoft Grants Flexibility: OpenAI Now Permitted to Utilize Other Cloud Services

Microsoft has revised its multi-year collaboration agreement with OpenAI, granting the AI innovator the freedom to utilize cloud computing services from other competitors. This agreement, valid until 2030, stipulates that Microsoft will retain a right of first refusal when OpenAI seeks additional computing power. Previously, Microsoft held the exclusive position as OpenAI's cloud provider; however, last year, it granted a special exemption enabling OpenAI to procure certain cloud services from Oracle. Furthermore, Microsoft has disclosed that OpenAI is now permitted to develop some of its cloud computing capabilities internally, primarily focused on research and model training.
